INTRODUCTION

       Zhao Xiaoxia, acknowledged young Guqinist, began her Guqin studies at the age of nine. From 1996 to 2009, studying under prestigious Guqin player and distinguished Professor Li Xiangting of Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM), she has graduated from the Affiliated Middle School of CCOM and accomplished her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Guqin Performance with Honors from CCOM. She has joined the Guqin faculty of CCOM since 2009 and has served on the Deputy Secretary of China Nationalities Orchestra Society (CNOS) Guqin Special Committee, Standing Director of China's Academy of Guqin (CAG), Consultant of Macau Guqin Research Institute (MGRI) and the Buddhist Music Ambassador of Hong Kong Buddhist Cultural Estate. 
       
      During her studies, Zhao has been honored with the first-place winner of the Guqin Youth Group in the CCTV---1st Traditional Musical Instrument Competition and also won the Gold Award of the Guqin Youth Group in the 2nd Macau "Jinhe Cup" International Music Competition for the Youth, the Grand Prize in the 3rd "Daily Art Cup" National Folk Music Instrument Solo/Ensemble Inter-communication Competition of CCOM, the CCOM Scholarship for Memorizing Wu Bochao and the Excellent Mentor Award for domestic and international competitions such as the 1st Asia "Little Performer" Music Festival and China Folk Instrument Competition.
  
      In 2006, as an Exchange Scholar to Hanover College of Music (Germany), Zhao held the Zhao Xiaoxia Guqin Concert which has aroused intensive attentions. In 2008, she presented the Solo Concert of Chinese Young Guqinist Zhao Xiaoxia in Macau Cultural Center and became the first Mainland artist to give public Guqin solo performances in Macau. She has been invited to perform recitals and to attend academic activities in many countries throughout Europe, America and Asia. And she has also been invited many times as a Guqin soloist on evening parties held by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT), the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC), Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Japan and National Tourism Administration of the People's Republic of China, and also on such events as Beijing Olympic Games, the Paralympics, Tokyo Symphony Concert in Japan, Los Angeles Mid-autumn Concert in the US, International Tourism Conference, the awarding ceremony of the 7th CCTV Golden Bull Award Fund, Beijing Contemporary Music Festival, Beijing International Electronic Music Festival, Series Concerts to Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China in the National Center for the Performing Arts, China Guqin International Art Festival, Literary Beijing • Cultural Feast and the Summit Forum on New Economic Era by E-consumption.
     
     Zhao has taken an active part in the universal implementation of Guqin education. She has served on the Committee of 2010 Cyber National Folk Music Instrument Competition, 2010 China National Music Instrument Art Festival and the Examination of China Nationalities Orchestra Society (CNOS) for Guqin Grading, and has also been invited as a Visiting Instructor for Tsinghua University Guqin Association. In addition, she has constantly integrated Guqin music with other artistic crossovers: including the world debut of Dialogue --- For On-stage Guqin, Voices scattered by distance, Laptop-Computerized Real-time Electronic Music created by French composer Marc Battier; Miss Zhao played a role of Xi Shi for Four Beauties in Ancient China, a post-modern multimedia Classical dance performance in which multi-track artistic elements such as terpsichorean gestures, musical sound and dramas have been melted into Guqin performance; She once collaborated with the China Opera and Dance-Drama Theatre and brought subtle Guqin timbre into an original Epic Opera Emperor Liu Bang; Performed with Feya Wang in the theme song Virtues of the Silent Orchid for the film Confucius, Zhao has perfectly crossed boundaries between human voice and Qin sound; Worked with Tan Jing and Jackie Chan for the song China Saw It and with musician Xiao Ke in a theme song Moon Over the Sea for the Shanghai World Expo etc.
     
    Zhao currently has over dozens of recordings to her credit, which include four solo albums. Among them are a Gold Awards for Production and Best-Selling by 2006 China International Exposition of Audio-Visual Industry (CIEAVI) Masters of Chinese Traditional Music Solo Appreciation---Zhao Xiaoxia HIFI Solo Album Guqin, Pristine Sound of Luqi---Macau Guqin Solo Concert by Zhao Xiaoxia, Individual•Qin•Xiao and Zhao Xiaoxia Guqin Concert. In the album Great Music• Traditional Music From a Brilliant Land ---High Mountains and Flowing Water, the solo piece Antiphony between a Fisherman and Woodman performed by Zhao Xiaoxia is recorded. Zhao has also served as a Guqin advisor and improvised music for films such as Confucius, Guan Yunchang, The Road, TV series such as Water Margin (New Edition), Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber, Twelve Girls in Gusu, Feng Qiu Huang, Zhidao Roads in Qin Dynasty, Hot Shot, documentary TaiChi WuDang and stage plays such as the Story about Ming Dynasty and Bejingers. She has featured many times on CCTV Elegant National Music (Fenghua Guoyue), Sound of Music, the Same Song, Fascination 12, Lucky 52, BTV Daily New Surprise (Meiri Xi Jingqi), Entertainment News Daily (Meiri Wenyu Bobao) and Hunan TV Happy Camp etc. Praised for the remarkable musicianship, precision and serenity of her music, Zhao has been exclusively interviewed by Musical Instrument, Masters, Chinese Artists, Macau Entertainment Newspaper, Macau Daily, Overseas Chinese Newspaper, O Globo, the People's Radio Station, SinaNetwork and Tencent etc. Reputed as Queen of the New-style Guqin bridging tradition and modern fashion, Zhao Xiaoxia has established herself as one of her generation’s most sought-after Guqinist.
